THOMAS WIESNER

I received my MD degree from the Medical University of Graz, Austria, in 2005, and started my residency training under the supervision of Helmut Kerl and Lorenzo Cerroni at the Department of Dermatology in Graz. In 2010, I received a fellowship to train in translational research, cancer genomics, and dermatopathology with Boris Bastian and Klaus Busam at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and with Martin Mihm at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. During my postdoctoral training, I discovered several genetic aberrations in melanocytic tumors such as BAP1 loss or kinase fusions in Spitz tumors. In 2016, I established my own laboratory at the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria, to investigate the molecular underpinnings of skin cancer.
